Kruger Photography Trip: FAQs

You don't need to be an experienced photographer to join this trip. However, knowing the basics of using your camera is important. When you fill in the form you'll let us know your experience level so we know where you're at and can support you accordingly.

What to bring:

  • Camera & lenses - preferably a telephoto lens to capture a larger variety of wildlife. You don’t need the latest and greatest to take good photos!
  • Chargers
  • Spare batteries
  • Laptop with Adobe Camera Raw or Adobe Lightroom subscription if you want to learn some basic editing and workflow throughout the trip
  • Memory cards & card reader
  • Hard drive - SSD or hard drive to store your images on safely
  • Camera cleaning kit / dust blower
  • Bean bag mount (to be mounted over game vehicle doors)

Note: we recommend keeping all of your camera gear in your hand luggage and avoiding the use of obvious camera bags for checked luggage (e.g. pelican cases).

This trip takes place in winter in SA where nights are cold and days sunny and warm. You will be out early in the morning and in the sun during the day looking for wildlife so layers are key. To ensure you have your bases covered, we recommend:
*Note that all clothing should be neutral coloured, bright colours should not be worn.

  • Long-sleeve t-shirts and shirts
  • Short sleeve t-shirts and shirts
  • A fleece
  • A jacket (rain and wind resistant) - it will be cold at times
  • Lightweight trousers
  • Shorts or zip off-trousers for warmer days
  • A cap or hat to protect from the sun
  • A beanie hat to keep ear warm
  • Gloves

Absolutely! We will have an expert guide joining us on the trip to provide us with detailed knowledge on the environment and wildlife that we are witnessing.

The cost of the trip is $5,200 in 2027. Return guests will receive a discount.

See the 'Key Information' section above.

International flights/travel to and from South Africa (most likely to Johannesburg Airport) are not included. Nor are domestic flights to Skukuza Airport (where we begin and end our trip). Travel insurance is also not provided but is required.

A simple breakfast is provided and will include tea and coffee. However, lunch, dinner, soft drinks, alcohol and extra snacks and local purchases in between will not be provided.

Weather is of course unpredictable. However, we have chosen to run this trip in the winter season in South Africa where the days are sunny and bright, rainfall is low, and nights are chilly. If it rains, that won't impact us much as we will be in a covered vehicle. So, we'll still be able to do what we have planned, we just need dress accordingly.

When we are on game drives in the Kruger NP there are rest stops, camps and restaurants that we will schedule regular stops at.

Yes, unfortunately we cannot accept guests under the age of 17 years old and 17 year olds must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

We recommend fully immersing yourself in this trip and largely disconnecting from the online world. However, should you need connectivity, there is usually WiFi in the camps but some camps are better than others. When we're out on drives in Kruger National Park, network signal is patchy and disappears in places.

All guests will be in twin share room. Couples will be placed together and those travelling alone will be paired up appropriately to share. We are more than happy to discuss allocation with you individually if you have a specific preference.

Upon booking you must arrange international and domestic flights to arrive in Skukuza Airport on the day that the trip begins and depart on the day it ends. We will collect you from the airport and take you to our first camp for the first night - we will do a game drive on the way and that afternoon. On the final day, we will drop you back at Skukuza Airport. We will provide you with a time that you must arrive in Skukuza and a time you must depart after.

We will provide guidance closer to the time and please consult with us before booking non-refundable flights.

Yes, comprehensive travel insurance including medical cover is required for you to join this trip.
